Volume 43, Number 2, April 1996
On the Cover: A hook-type bannerstone found by Howard Lutz in Spencer County, Indiana on April 20, 1977. It measures 3¾ inches long and is a rare Late Archaic form. Of the 15 known specimens, 12 were found in southern Indiana, primarily along the Ohio River from Evansville to Louisville. This specimen was found along with two others (another hook-type and an hourglass type) as the river receded from flood stage. All three were ceremonially killed and later restored. This bannerstone was chosen to represent Indiana artifacts, submitted by David Lutz.
