On the Cover: This remarkable blade was found along Clear Creek south of Cobden in Union County, Illinois. The family of the finder, who found
it in 1926, kept in in between two panes of glass and had it hanging in a window to let the sun shine through since the blade is highly
translucent. It measures 8 ½” in length and is made from Centennial Butte agate, which is found in the Dakotas. How it traveled to
the Midwest remains a mystery. It dates to the Paleo period and has been identified as a rare platter blade utilized by the Clovis Culture.
