Among the featured articles is Dan Morse’s “Tuberculosis and Archaeology,” exploring evidence of disease in ancient populations and the role archaeology can play in understanding prehistoric health. Don R. Dickson contributes “The Neosho Focus,” while Ray Thurman shares “Our Trip to Mesa Verde,” offering readers a look at one of the most important archaeological regions of the American Southwest.

Several articles focus on distinctive artifacts and regional archaeology. “Cahokia Mounds Serpent Pottery” by William G. Fecht examines pottery associated with the important Cahokia archaeological area. Philip Florio’s “Southern Illinois — The Indian’s Paradise” explores the rich archaeological heritage of Southern Illinois, while H. R. McPherson contributes “Down in Mississippi.” Duane DePaepe’s “Pictographs of Cache Bay, Ontario, Canada” expands the issue’s geographic scope with a study of Indigenous rock imagery from Ontario.

Other highlights include “Broken Pots,” “Old Ringneck,” and “The DeSoto Mound Porphyry Pop-Eye,” along with several pages of artifact illustrations. The issue also honors William L. Waters as the “Dean Among the Amateurs,” recognizing the important contributions made by dedicated amateur archaeologists.

Rounding out this January 1960 issue are the Council News and Editorial Section and additional illustrations. With its combination of artifact studies, regional archaeology, prehistoric health, pottery, pictographs, archaeological travel, and collecting history, this volume remains a useful historical resource for collectors, students, researchers, and anyone interested in the archaeology of North America.
